My youngest was diagnosed with infantile eczema at 2 months of age. It was pretty severe and required an emergency visit to the pediatric dermatologist.
I knew nothing about eczema as no one in the family has it and my two previous children never experienced eczema problems. The dermatologist diagnosed it as dust mite related eczema and I was heart broken, because it meant complete lifestyle change.
I found myself spending hours on the internet looking for answers, or anything that would indicate my little girl was going to get better soon. I cried many nights, because it broke my heart watching her in agony.
The doctor gave me tons of creams, most of them based on cortisone. I did not know what was worse, me wrapping her so she doesn’t scratch herself to blood or poisoning her little body with cortisone. A food allergy test was ordered but at 5 months because she was too little at the time. In the meantime, I had to cut out all the common allergy causing foods from my diet since I was breastfeeding.
I couldn’t stand the thought of using the cortisone, because whilst it relieved the redness and itch, as soon as I would stop for the recommended 4 days break, the eczema came back. And each time it was worse.
I decided to visit a naturopath, firstly because I’m a believer in natural medicine ( my argument is, how did people cure themselves thousands of years ago…anyway, that’s me) and secondly, it was recommended to me by a friend.
So I went. He told me to stop the cortisone immediately and gave her some natural (disgusting) drinks and (stinky) creams that worked instantly. Whilst it didn’t cure the eczema, it helped to the extent that she was comfortable. In the meantime, we had the allergy test, and it turned out that she had quite few allergies, but not dust mites related.
Today, my beautiful baby is eczema free. We are still eliminating all of the foods from the allergy list, but I slowly introduce them in small amounts. The immunity has to be built up in my opinion. She gets small reactions here and there, but never to the extent she had at 2-4 months.
I thought I will share my story as some of you out there are spending your life looking for some answers to relieve your baby’s and your pain. I know how desperate I was for stories, advice or anything that was going to give me hope and tips on how to relieve my babies eczema problem.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me or comment. I will be more than happy to help in any way I can.
Cheers
Tatjana

A Day 2 Remember Baby Keepsakes

Posted in News | No Comments »
July 31st, 2009
So I finally had my baby girl…the very special day was April 22 and after only 1 1/2 hours of labour and delivery ( I know, I’m very lucky), my husband and I welcomed another beautiful baby girl into our life. We named her Maya. She weighed whooping 3920 grams at 50cm length. Yes, even third time around, it’s very magical and the overwhelming endorphins just kick in. I find the best tasting food is the toast with butter and jam and a cup of tea or coffee, is the one they serve you after the delivery.Oh boy, I can still remember how good it tasted .
I went home the next day as I can’t stand the noise in the hospital, plus I wasn’t alone in the room. Even though there were times I wished I stayed a bit longer, because my 2 year old was very hard to keep away from the baby.
I wasn’t quite the “superwoman” I thought I was going to be, handling everything superbly…actually quite the opposite. It took me some time getting used to being mum of three, but we’re getting there.

I am having more and more Braxton Hicks contractions. I used to have a lot with the two previous pregnancies and find them quite uncomfortable. It feels like they take my breath away for few seconds. I can also feel the baby filling up the space and some of the movements feel a bit painful. Am loving every moment though. For me, feeling the movements is the highlight of the pregnancy. Some women say they never get them. I believe they helped me every time in preparation for labour and delivery. But that’s a topic I’ll touch in my next post. I’d love to hear whether you believe they help prepare your body for labour and delivery.

My dute is 28/04/09 and I am so hoping that my baby girl will be born on 1st of May. This is a very special date for me, because my beloved mother, who passed way at 35, was born on this day. See, I was convinced this baby was a boy, purely on the symptoms of the pregnancy, having previously been pregnant with a boy and a girl, but as it turned out, every pregnancy is different. Wouldn’t it be very special to have a baby girl be born on the same day as my beautiful Mum? Not a day goes by where I don’t think about her, but having a child born on the same day would be so much more special. I guess we’ll have to be patient and see when baby Maya decides to meet us. I love children. God bless them, what a joy they bring. Every day has its challenges but their hug, kiss or their smile, makes you forget all the naughty things they do just like seeing your child for the first time makes you forget about the labour and delivery pains.

I haven’t experienced pregnancy in summer before, even though this is my third pregnancy. I am now in my 28th week of pregnancy and the Sydney heat is really getting to me. The day starts with some energy but the humidity is absolutely draining me. Of course having two kids to look after, doesn’t help either but you find yourself with no choice. The house we just moved to, which we’re renting, has no AC and I’m wondering how is a pregnant woman supposed to cope in such conditions??? We ended up buying a portable AC but of course it’s only good for one room, so we use it at night in the bedroom. At least something. I really feel for all women who are pregnant at this time of the year.

Oh, that Special Day…
Life is filled with amazing memories, miraculous moments and instants of pure joy. However, nothing compares to the joy and amazement a mother feels at the birth of their child. Pregnancy is a wondrous thing, though it can be more than a little uncomfortable, but birth more than makes up for any amount of discomfort or difficulty. That single moment is unlike any other that a mother will experience in their entire lives.
A Wealth of Emotion…
New mothers may have fears regarding their soon-to-be child. Fears about the future, about caring for the newborn and many other fears are very common. The first glimpse of that tiny life, crying and clutching miniature hands, fills your heart with incredibly deep emotions. Love, fierce pride, determination and incredible joy are just the tip of the iceberg. When your child is placed in your arms for the first time, when you feel that amazing warmth and those tiny hands grasp the end of your finger, all other thoughts leave your mind. You are filled with an amazing feeling of peace, of contentment and all-encompassing happiness.
A Lasting Memory…
All too soon, the baby will begin to grow, to experience life and to become the person he or she is meant to be. The first months pass swiftly, the baby growing and changing all the time. Those memories of birth remain, though they grow distant with the passing of years. Scrapbooks, videos and even tiny mitts from the hospital can instantly recall those memories for the mother. However, they are little more than a curiosity for a growing child.
A Day 2 Remember Keepsake can immortalize these memories. More than that, it can provide your child with a way to experience that instant of joy. A Day 2 Remember Keepsake provides a way to show your child how important and special they are, as well as all the information about their birth. The Keepsake includes vital birth information, such as length, weight and eye color, of course. However, the try beauty of this gift is in the details.
Combining the beauty of a work of art, with the accurate information of a birth certificate, the Keepsake also offers information about zodiac signs, what happened on the day and during the year the child was born and much more. This incredible keepsake is a heartwarming way to provide your child with memories that will last a lifetime.
